Sounders FC midfielder Osvaldo Alonso subbed for precautionary reason, not injury

Sounders FC Head Coach Sigi Schmid said Sunday that Osvaldo Alonso did not suffer a serious injury in the team’s 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Sunday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, and that pulling the defensive midfielder from the match was purely a precautionary measure.

Alonso left the game on Sunday in the 73rd minute with the Sounders up 3-0, replaced by Gonzalo Pineda. The Sounders clinched a berth in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs with the win, and will host the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference Knockout Round on Wednesday (7 p.m. PT; JoeTV/UniMas/KIRO 97.3/El Rey 1360 AM).

“He came out a little bit, too, as a precaution," Schmid said of Alonso. "He felt a little bit of something, so we wanted to make sure he didn’t go beyond that. That’s why we told him to sit down. We think he’ll be alright for Wednesday.”

Alonso appeared in 22 of the team’s 34 games during the regular season this year and has appeared in 16 of the team’s 17 postseason games all-time.
