2014 (Seattle): Barrett appeared in 26 games during the regular season, including eight starts. His seven goals against league competition ranked fourth on the club. Three of those goals were game-winners, which was tied for the second-highest mark on the team. In the season opener versus Sporting Kansas City (March 8), he netted the game-winning goal in the 94th minute—tying the club record for latest goal. Against FC Dallas, Barrett recorded the game-winning assist (April 12). In the U.S. Open Cup, Barrett appeared in all five matches and scored two goals.
2013 (New England): Barrett made 19 regular-season appearances in his lone season with the Revs, including eight starts (three at forward and five at right midfield). In the regular season, he scored two goals and added two assists. Barrett made his Revolution debut with a 90th-minute substitute appearance at Chicago (March 9). He scored his first goal and first assist as a Rev against LA Galaxy (June 2). Barrett scored the game-tying goal in the 88th minute against Chivas USA (June 29) in a 1-1 draw. He appeared in both of the team’s MLS Cup Playoffs matches against Sporting Kansas City, coming on as a substitute in both. In addition, Barrett appeared in all three of the team’s U.S. Open Cup matches, starting two and scoring one goal and one assist – both at Rochester (May 28) in the third round.
2012 (LA Galaxy/Valernga): Barrett made 18 regular-season appearances in his final season with the LA Galaxy, starting seven. He played 677 minutes and finished with one goal and three assists. He scored against Philadelphia (July 4) in a 2-1 loss. On July 31, 2012, he was loaned to Norway’s Valerenga, where he closed the season with five appearances in the Tippeligaen. He was waived by LA at the conclusion of the season and was available in the 2012 Re-Entry Process.
2011 (LA Galaxy): Barrett was traded from Toronto FC to the LA Galaxy on January 13, 2011, in exchange for future considerations. He started 20 of his 27 regular-season appearances in LA, playing 1,583 minutes. Barrett finished second on the Galaxy with seven regular-season goals (eight goals in all competitions) and added five assists. The Galaxy went 8-0-0 when he scored and 4-1-0 when he had an assist. He tallied his first multi-assist game of his MLS career against Sporting Kansas City (May 14). Due to ankle injury, he missed two months of the season. He scored his 40th career MLS goal against Real Salt Lake (October 1). Barrett started the Galaxy’s first three postseason games, but missed the MLS Cup final after suffering a dislocated right foot in training ahead of the game.
2010 (Toronto): Barrett started 18 of his 23 regular season appearances for Toronto FC, playing 1,545 minutes. He finished with seven goals and two assists, including a brace against Chicago (May 8). Barrett added a goal in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, which helped Toronto FC qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time in club history.
2009 (Toronto): He started 27 of his 29 regular season appearances, playing 2,069 minutes. Barrett finished with five goals and three assists. He scored his first goal of the season at FC Dallas (April 19), and added a goal against Columbus (May 2). Barrett tallied a brace at San Jose (July 20) in a 3-1 win. Barrett scored in his return to Chicago (September 26). In addition, Barrett added two goals in the Nutrilite Canadian Championship.
2008 (Chicago/Toronto): Barrett started the season with the Chicago Fire, but was traded to Toronto FC on July 30, 2008, with the Fire’s 2009 first-round MLS SuperDraft pick and conditional future considerations in exchange for the top spot in the allocation order, which Chicago used to acquire Brian McBride. He made 29 regular-season appearances, including 27 starts, between Chicago (16 appearances, 14 starts) and Toronto (13 appearances, all starts). He played a total of 2,172 minutes (1,174 in Chicago; 998 in Toronto). Barrett finished the year with a career-high nine goals (5 with Chicago, 4 with Toronto) and a career-high seven assists (4 with Chicago, 3 with Toronto). He scored a brace at New York (May 28) in a 5-1 win over Red Bulls. Barret then made his debut with Toronto against FC Dallas (August 3). He scored his first goal for Toronto at Colorado (August 9) in a 1-0 win.
2007 (Chicago): Barrett made 30 appearances in his final full season with Chicago, starting 25 games. He played 1,983 minutes, finishing with a team-best seven goals, while adding two assists. Barrett added his first assist of the season against New England (October 6), in a 2-1 win in which he also scored the game-winning goal. Scored his first postseason goal in the second leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series win over D.C. United.
2006 (Chicago): He made 16 appearances, including nine starts for the Fire, in which he scored five goals and added one assist. In all, Barrett played 778 minutes in the regular season. Barrett scored the first goal of the 2006 MLS season at FC Dallas (April 1) in a 3-2 loss. He added his second goal of the season at Kansas City (May 6). His first career brace came against Real Salt Lake (June 28) in a 22-minute appearance off the bench. Barrett helped the Fire win the 2006 U.S. Open Cup with an assist in the final against LA (September 27).
2005 (Chicago): Barrett was drafted by the Chicago Fire in the first round (third overall) of the 2005 MLS SuperDraft. As a rookie, he made 20 appearances, including four starts. He scored one goal and added four assists while playing 594 minutes. He made his MLS debut at FC Dallas (April 2) and scored his first career MLS goal at Real Salt Lake (May 28), helping Chicago win 3-0. Barrett recorded his first career MLS assist against San Jose (April 16). He also appeared in nine MLS
Reserve Division games, in which he scored eight goals.
Barrett earned his first cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team on June 22, 2008, in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier in Barbados. He has represented the U.S. at the U-18, U-20, and U-23 levels, including the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland, where he scored three goals.
He played two seasons at UCLA, making 23 career appearances with 17 starts. Barrett scored 16 goals and added 18 assists while helping the Bruins to a 34-6-3 record. A two-time Second Team All-PAC-10 performer (2003, 2004), 2003 Pac-10 Co-Freshman/Newcomer of the Year, Barrett left UCLA after his sophomore season to sign with MLS.
The son of Trish Whiteman and Randy Barrett, he has five siblings (Daneisha, Brittany, Tegina, Shamon, and Brooklyn). Barrett’s favorite soccer player is current USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann. His most memorable soccer moment is his goal against Argentina at the U-20 World Championship.
