Seattle Sounders FC and the LA Galaxy will meet in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the second straight year and the fourth time in their history, this time in the Western Conference Knockout Round.
The Sounders will host the Galaxy at CenturyLink Field in Seattle on Wednesday, Oct. 28 (7 p.m. PT; JoeTV/UniMás/KIRO 97.3/El Rey 1306 AM), with a berth in the conference semifinals on the line.
The Sounders clinched the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 3-1 win over Real Salt Lake on Sunday night at CenturyLink Field, while the Galaxy fell from the second seed at kickoff to the fifth spot by night’s end with a 2-1 road loss to Sporting Kansas City.
The win on Sunday secured the Sounders’ seventh consecutive berth in the postseason, but it doesn’t mean the road gets any easier from here. The Galaxy have beaten the Sounders in the postseason each of the teams’ three previous meetings, including the Western Conference Championship last year. The Sounders beat the Galaxy 2-1 in the second leg of the series at CenturyLink Field, but ultimately lost on the away-goal tiebreaker.
The Galaxy also beat the Sounders in the 2010 Western Conference semifinals and the 2012 Western Conference Championship.
The Sounders lost two games on the road against the Galaxy this season before rallying for a 1-1 draw against LA on Oct. 4 in their only meeting this year at CenturyLink Field.
The Sounders won their only previous game in the Knockout Round – a 2013 win over the Colorado Rapids at CenturyLink Field.
