Looking back at the Seattle Sounders' five game-winners against Sporting Kansas City

The Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City have a penchant for late drama. No less than five times, the Sounders have defeated SKC in the final breaths of the match. With the upcoming fixture down at Children's Mercy Park this Sunday (12 p.m. PT; ESPN; KIRO Radio 97.3 FM, El Rey 1360AM), we’re counting down all five stoppage time goals the Sounders have scored against Sporting KC.

Mike Fucito - April 7, 2010

It was Mike Fucito’s first goal for the Sounders and what a goal it was. The Sounders and Sporting had played through a scoreless 90 minutes at CenturyLink Field until a well-timed run by Fucito changed everything. Midfielder Brad Evans found Fucito direct from a throw in and one touch, Fucito turned and fired near post on goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen for the 1-0 win.

Jeff Parke - May 21, 2011

In 2011, it was the same story, different day. The Sounders and KC had once again played through a scoreless 90 minutes until it all changed from the unlikeliest of heroes. Defender Jeff Parke, who hadn’t scored an MLS goal since 2004, met a Tyson Wahl corner kick with his head and turned it into the back post passed Nielsen once again for the 1-0 victory.

Lamar Neagle, Aug. 6, 2011

Later that same year, the Sounders added insult to injury not only scoring yet another late goal, but two within three minutes to win the match. Midfielder Mauro Rosales was the catalysts on both plays. First, he scored a goal himself after some nifty footwork through two defenders in the box. For the second goal, he set up midfielder Lamar Neagle who received the ball on a deflection off of Fucito and drove it neatly into the bottom corner with a single, deft touch. And just like that, 0-1 turned into 2-1 and three points for the Sounders.

Djimi Traore, May 8, 2013

Fresh off of his outrageous 30-yard screamer in the CONCACAF Champions League, it was Djimi Traore’s turn to cash in a game winner on Sporting KC. Once again, it was scoreless after 90 minutes until Evans flicked on defender Zach Scott’s throw in, into a wide open Traore in the center of the box. Traore took a touch and then hooked it into the yawning net passed Nielsen for the 1-0 victory.

Chad Barrett - March 8, 2014

In his debut for the Sounders, forward Chad Barrett made himself right at home by scoring yet another game winner for the club on SKC in stoppage time. Engineered by forward Clint Dempsey, Barrett stabbed in the goal after Dempsey’s header rang off the crossbar and his ensuing bicycle kick fell kindly in front of net for the awaiting Barrett. The Sounders walked away with a 1-0 victory in the home opener of the most remarkable season in club history.
