The Seattle Sounders Home Opener is almost here.
One of the can’t-miss events of the year, the Seattle Sounders will host Eastern Conference side Charlotte FC at Lumen Field on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. PT; MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 93.3 KJR FM, El Rey 1360AM | TICKETS). Here are five reasons to attend:
1. Returning core
The Sounders welcome back all but seven players to the 2025 roster who were a part of the team that advanced to the Western Conference Final last year. Whether it be the brickwall backline that only allowed 35 goals last season or players like Albert Rusnák and Jordan Morris who enjoyed career-best years for the club, the core of the team remains the same and is ready to produce an even stronger year than the last.
2. New signings
In addition to maintaining most of the squad from last season, the Sounders picked up former FC Dallas stars Jesús Ferreira and Paul Arriola to not only add depth to the roster, but bolster the attack as well. Wednesday night’s Concacaf Champions Cup win over Antigua GFC provided a sneak peak of just how lethal the two players can be up-front; in less than three minutes of match-play, Ferreira played a ball across the goal for Arriola to rocket one-time into the back of the net.
Over the last three seasons, Ferreira and Arriola have combined for 54 goals and 36 assists in MLS competition, injecting some attacking firepower to the Sounders.
Kim Kee-hee also returns to the Sounders after spending five seasons with South Korean side Ulsan HD FC. A fan favorite during his two seasons with Seattle, the center back supported the team toward its second MLS Cup title in 2019.
3. Strong build-up
The Sounders showcased lots of promise during preseason camp, going unbeaten in all five of their scrimmages and scoring 17 goals. The team then carried that momentum into its first match of their 2025 campaign on Wednesday night, with a 3-1 victory over Antigua GFC in the first round of the Concacaf Champions Cup. With a string of impressive results under their belts, the Sounders are poised to hit the ground running in Saturday night’s home opener showdown.

4. Offensive prowess
The Sounders earned their reputation as one the best defenses in MLS over the last few years. Now, the team has the potential to be supreme on both ends of the pitch with the latest additions of Arriola and Ferreira, combined with returning players like Morris, Pedro de la Vega and Rusnák to create a more dynamic offense. Wednesday night’s CCC match was just a glimpse of the offensive potential the team has in store for the season, with each of the three goals coming from a different player in the attack.
5. Matchday experience
Food and beverage purchases are a necessity when it comes to match days. Beginning on Saturday, Lumen Field will provide an array of options for fans to indulge in, including menu items under $10, food trucks from local businesses and pop-up vendors, and a $12 value combo of 2 hot dogs and pretzel bites located at Local Dogs & Brats stands.
Season Ticket Members will also get exclusive access to the new Alliance Member Central located in Olympic Hall and the T-Mobile End Zone (Club-Level season-ticket holders). From there, they will have the opportunity to meet non-dressing players and/or Sounders alumni, engage in new activites, enjoy some pre-match snacks, and so much more!
