2024 RECORDS AND STANDINGS: Sounders: 6-7-7 (25 points, 10th West), Fire: 4-9-6 (18 points, 15th West)

FORM GUIDE (all competitions, most recent first): Seattle: WDWLD, Chicago: LWWDD

PREVIOUS MEETING: The Fire defeated the Sounders 1-0 at Soldier Field in Chicago on July 16, 2022. Rafael Czichos scored the match’s lone goal in the 23rd minute.

COMEBACK KIDS: The Sounders capped a seven-point week last week with a 2-2 draw at the Houston Dynamo and a 3-2 win over FC Dallas. Seattle trailed by two goals in each contest and clawed back to claim valuable results.

MORRIS, RUSNÁK ON TOTM: Major League Soccer named Jordan Morris and Albert Rusnák to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 22 for their efforts in the Sounders’ comeback win over Dallas. Morris recorded a late brace to seal the win, while Rusnák assisted on two of Seattle’s three goals.

MORRIS CLIMBS SOUNDERS LEADERBOARD: Morris reached a club milestone last weekend, scoring his 59th and 60th career regular-season goals. The Sounders Homegrown product passed legend Fredy Montero for second on Seattle’s all-time MLS goalscoring list and trails only current teammate Raúl Ruidíaz.

MIDDLE OF HOMESTAND: The Sounders will play their second of a crucial three-match homestand on Saturday, all against teams that enter below the playoff line. Following the Fire, Seattle will welcome fellow Eastern Conference opponent the New England Revolution, who make their first trip to Lumen Field since 2019.

CUYPERS COOKING: The Fire made a huge splash in the transfer market last offseason when they spent a club-record fee to acquire Belgian forward Hugo Cuypers from K.A.A. Gent in the Belgian First Division. After a slow start, Cuypers has scored in four consecutive matches and leads Chicago with seven goals on the season.

FIRE FUTILITY: It’s been another tough season for Chicago, which enters the weekend last in the Eastern Conference and owns the third-fewest points in MLS. The Fire have struggled mightily in attack with just 23 goals scored, which is tied for the second-lowest in the league.
